Preliminary Terrain Description KEX 2016

More information will come.

The Map

The map is an adapted version of part of Fjällkartan at a scale of 1:50 000. As the base map is at a scale of 1:100 000 not all details are given.

The contour interval (the height difference between two contour lines) is 20 metres which means that many height formations are not accurately shown. Normal orienteering maps, for example, have a 5-metre contour interval.

The Course

Our aim is that the degree of difficulty on the courses should increase with the easiest terrain and orienteering in the Medium class and the hardest in the Extreme class.

The course consists of free route choice between clearly marked control points. The control points consist of obvious terrain features such as Lake, Summit, etc. Orienteering know-how is required on all courses.

The course varies from year to year and is mostly in high mountain terrain. This means that the terrain is often very demanding with stony ground, snow, glaciers and cliffs. New snow is not uncommon on the peaks at the end of August and the cloud base can be low.
